Margaret Carleton, Volunteers Manager for CALLplus Salford, will be donning her trainers and running 10k (6.2 miles) in Palma, Majorca on Sunday 19th October 2014 to raise money for CALLplus. Margaret is a member of the Winston Runners, a local running club in Wythenshawe where she lives. Margaret has been running for over 30 years and has taken part in marathons and half marathons both in the UK and abroad, raising much needed funds for various causes. At the young age of 60 she now takes a slower pace with her running enjoying the shorter distances of 10k and 5k. She is passing on her wealth of skills as a Leadership in Running and Fitness coach, introducing the joys of running and keeping fit through exercise to others.
Margaret has been a CALLplus volunteer in South Manchester since 1998 and now works part time as Volunteers Manager for CALLplus Salford, a role that she finds both interesting and rewarding. Margaret says:
“The support that we are able to offer, such as helping clients get to and from their hospital appointments, offering practical and emotional support at home and our twice monthly social afternoon makes such a difference to their lives. And there is no doubt that we could not do this without the sheer enthusiasm and dedication of our band of amazing volunteers who give up their own time in order to help others.”
